Use this checklist to decide whether smart glasses can carry a hands-free agent workflow
Operators should verify capture, delegation, and device-enforced privacy before putting a hands-free agent workflow on smart glasses.

A hands-free agent on smart glasses is a decision about capture, delegation, and privacy. If the device cannot prove all three, the workflow stays off the wearable. Operators should approve, condition, or reject a glasses-based agent workflow using three checks: verifiable capture state, explicit task delegation, and enforceable privacy guardrails.
The glasses sit near the wearer's face. They can see what the wearer sees, hear what the wearer hears, and act while the wearer's hands are free. The convenience is the product and the risk.
Run the three-item preflight
- Confirm that the capture state is visible and that blocking the light stops the camera.
- Require that the agent names the task, shows its scope, and can be stopped by voice.
- Verify that the device enforces privacy limits without a manual user step.
Each check is quick. A failed check keeps the workflow off the glasses.
Capture state must be provable
Operators need proof that the wearer is recording, not a promise that the wearer will be honest. Meta's AI smart glasses include a white indicator light that flashes while the wearer captures a photo or video, and the camera shuts down if the indicator is obstructed. Some users reportedly got around Meta's glasses recording indicator by beginning a recording and then covering the light. Meta's AR VP Alex Himel said on Threads that an update would make the capture LED more reliable and stop the camera if the light is covered during recording.
Test the light with the wearer's hand, a sleeve, a finger, and a smudge. Require the indicator to remain visible when the wearer moves. Confirm that the camera stops when the light is blocked. Surface the state to the wearer and, where possible, to nearby people.
Verify the light, not just the app. Check that the indicator is visible from a normal distance, that the camera stops when the light is blocked, and that the state is logged or surfaced to the user. If the capture state can be hidden, do not run the workflow.
Delegation must be explicit
Inference that reads intent from a glance is not enough. Require the agent UX to show what it heard, what it will do, and how to stop it. A hands-free workflow requires a clear command, a visible confirmation, and a way to revoke the task. If the agent can act on a guess, the operator has shifted risk from the user to the device.
Ask the agent to summarize a meeting, then ask it to stop. Require the response to name the task, show the scope, and allow cancellation without another device. If the agent cannot say what it is doing, it should not be doing it.
Keep the command narrow. A request to capture, summarize, and send a message is a chain. Make each step visible. Keep the agent from combining a glance, a location, and a contact into an action without a clear instruction. Define what the agent may do before the wearer puts the glasses on.
Privacy guardrails must be device-enforced
Device-enforced limits matter because user behavior is unreliable. A Delhi resident alleged that he was harassed and secretly filmed in a café using Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, and he sent a legal notice to the Instagram creator and Meta Platforms. The notice sought deletion of the video, an apology, and ₹2.05 crore in damages. By August 6, the Internet Freedom Foundation said the Instagram reel had received more than 4.19 lakh views, about 15,700 likes, and over 500 comments. Ray-Ban Meta glasses entered the Indian market in May 2025 with a starting price of ₹29,900.
Do not ask the wearer to be careful. The device must block capture in restricted spaces, delete or expire recordings on a schedule, and keep the capture state visible. A guardrail that depends on a setting the user can turn off is not a guardrail.
Cover storage, sharing, and retention. Keep recordings out of shared folders by default. Keep transcripts away from third parties unless a task is visible. Make deletion executable from the device. If the operator cannot show where the data goes, the workflow is not ready.
Document the failing check and remove the workflow from the glasses.
